Federal Government Withdraws Diplomatic Passports from Ex-Governors, Ministers, Legislators


The federal government has ordered with abrupt effect, the withdrawal of diplomatic and official passports to unauthorized holders including former governors, ministers and legislators.

This latest directive was contained in a statement signed yesterday by the new Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Martins Abeshi.


The Comptroller-General stated that “further to the directive on the withdrawal of diplomatic and official passports held by unauthorised persons, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) hereby directs all affected persons to comply forthwith.”

He listed the affected persons to include, among others, former state governors, senators, members House of Representatives, and members of state Houses of Assembly.

Others are: former ministers, commissioners, special advisers/special assistants, chairmen/deputy chairmen of local government areas, all retired heads of parastatals and retired public servants.
