Kogi Hails Appeal Court Judgement On LG Councils

Kogi State Government has applauded the judgement of the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja which reinstated the chairmen and councillors of the 21 Local Government Areas in the state.

In a statement issued in Lokoja, Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, described the judgement as an affirmation that the judiciary is truly the last hope of the common man and commended the reinstated chairmen and councillors for remaining law abiding while the court case lasted.

While noting that the decision of Governor Idris Wada to respect the ruling of a Koton Karfe High Court which nullified the election of the Local Government chairmen and councillors was in line with the rule of law, the Deputy Governor praised the decision of the chairmen and councillors to appeal the judgement, adding that the Appeal Court ruling today vindicates the position of the government.

The State Government felicitates with the chairmen and assured that the state will continue to ensure a harmonious working relationship with the Local Government Areas in the state.

It will be recalled that the Council Chairmen and Councilors were sacked from office by the judgement of a Koton-Karfe High Court on the 14th of December 2014.
