See How Nigerian Prisoners Suffer In Prisons

The prison space is about 1,250 feet in length and about 878 feet in width enclosing large acres of land. The enclosure is hedged in by high walls capped with iron fence about 16 feet high, on the outside of which a parapet wall about 12 feet from the ground stands so imposing.

What would have been a correctional facility like what is obtained in foreign countries, have lost its purpose as inmates are left at the mercies of mother nature while some of the inmate have gradually degenerated to mental inmates who should be given psychiatric treatment due to the condition of prison.

Is it that the government have failed on its part to build correctional facilities that will see those convicted being re-integrated into the society after serving jail terms. The look from the faces of the inmates revealed that they suffer profound and pervasive psychological disintegration because of their present circumstances.

For a better society, government should make effort to see that the welfare of these convicts are taken serious as they remain human and part of the society.

Prince Harry and His Girlfriend Cressida Bonas Quit Relationship

Prince Harry and his girlfriend Cressida Bonas have split up, but remain "the best of friends" after calling time on their two year relationship.

The pair had been widely tipped to walk up the aisle, with speculation growing in recent months that the 29-year-old fourth in line to the throne and 25-year-old Cressida would marry.

"It's very, very sad that they have decided to split. It's very amicable but they have decided to go their separate ways," a source close to the couple said.

Rumours that Cressida was "the one" for Harry gathered pace in March when she joined the Prince at one of his official engagements for the first time. They sat together and embraced in the stands at Wembley Arena at a We Day UK charity event.

One of the reasons they decided to end their relationship was to enable Cressida, who completed a one year contemporary dance course at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire in Greenwich, London, last year and now has a marketing job in London's West End, to concentrate on her career.
Cressida is also thought to have disliked the attention she faced while dating a member of the royal family as rumours of a possible engagement escalated. The couple will be hoping their split will bring an end to the media interest in Cressida and allow her the privacy to focus on her work life.

But the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge broke up briefly and amicably during their long term relationship, four years before they married, which is likely to prompt suggestions that Harry and Cressida's decision to separate may eventually be temporary.

News of Harry and Cressida's split came on the day William and Kate celebrated their third wedding anniversary. Harry and Cressida, who headed off on a skiing trip together to Kazakhstan last month, are said to have been introduced by the Prince's cousin and Cressida's friend Princess Eugenie. They began dating in May 2012.

NBA Bans Clippers Owner Sterling Over Racial Comments, Pushes To 'Force A Sale' Of Team

The NBA's commissioner came down hard Tuesday on Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, ordering him out of his team's business and pushing to force him to sell over racist remarks that caused a firestorm since becoming public days ago.

Adam Silver detailed Sterling's punishment of a lifetime ban and $2.5 million fine -- the "maximum amount" allowed per league guidelines -- at a press conference eight hours before Sterling's Clippers were to tip off in the fifth game of a tightly contested first-round playoff series with the Golden State Warriors.

Silver's decision was met with immediate support from NBA owners, players and others connected to the league who have been calling for swift, firm punishment ever since TMZ posted audio featuring the incendiary comments.

"I hope that every bigot in this country sees what happened to Mr. Sterling and recognizes that if he can fall, so can you," Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, a former NBA All-Star who was tasked with leading the NBA players union's efforts on this matter.

Under the lifetime ban, Sterling is prohibited from attending NBA games or practices, stepping foot inside any Clippers' facility, taking part in business or personnel decisions, or having a role in league activities such as attending NBA Board of Governors meetings.

Silver, who succeeded longtime NBA leader David Stern in February, also insisted he will do "everything in my power" to compel the NBA Board of Governors to "force a sale" of the Clippers.

If Sterling does sell the team, he stands to profit considerably: He bought the Clippers for $12 million in 1981, and the team is now worth $575 million, according to Forbes magazine.

Lethal Injection: Oklahoma Prison Officials Halts An Inmate’s Execution

Oklahoma prison officials halted an inmate’s execution after a new drug combination left the man writhing and clenching his teeth on the gurney. He later died of a heart attack.

Clayton Lockett, 38, was declared unconscious 10 minutes after the first of three drugs in the state’s new lethal injection combination was administered Tuesday evening. Three minutes later, he began breathing heavily, writhing, clenching his teeth and straining to lift his head off the pillow.

The blinds were eventually lowered to prevent those in the viewing gallery from watching what was happening in the death chamber, and the state’s top prison official eventually called a halt to the proceedings. Lockett died of a heart attack a short time later, the Department of Corrections said.

“It was a horrible thing to witness. This was totally botched,” said Lockett’s attorney, David Autry.
The problems with the execution are likely to fuel more debate about the ability of states to administer lethal injections that meet the U.S. Constitution’s requirement they be neither cruel nor unusual punishment. That question has drawn renewed attention from defense attorneys and death penalty opponents in recent months, as several states scrambled to find new sources of execution drugs because drugmakers that oppose capital punishment — many based in Europe — have stopped selling to U.S. prisons and corrections departments.

World's Oldest Barmaid Still Serving At 100

A great-great grandmother who is the oldest barmaid in the world will soon celebrate her 100th birthday - but has no plans to retire.

Dolly Saville still works three days a week at The Red Lion Hotel in Wendover, Bucks, where she has been pulling pints for an incredible 74 years since 1940. She started working at the bar when she was just 26 and King George VI was on the throne, Winston Churchill was Prime Minister and Britain was in the grip of World War Two.

Over the last seven decades she has served scores of famous faces, including Pierce Brosnan, Ted Heath, Stanley Matthews, Vera Lynn, Margot Fonteyn and Elizabeth Taylor. Until six years ago, she was still working at least six hours a day, six days a week and has only ever had two weeks sick leave.

She has now reduced her work to three shifts a week, but still spends hours on her feet clearing tables, polishing glasses and serving customers. Mrs Saville, who has three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, reckons she has pulled two million pints in the bar, named Dolly's in her honour.

"I love my work and I love the people, it keeps me going and it's better than sitting around," she said.

"I never thought I would be here this long, but I've loved every minute of it. My family keeps asking if I want to stop, but I have no plans to retire.

"My boss is lovely and if he asked me to work an extra shift I would say yes as he has been so kind to me."

Police Arrest Man Suspected To Have Eaten New Born Baby

Pakistani police have arrested a second man suspected of eating a newborn baby whose head was found at their home.
Farman Ali, 30, was detained a day after police arrested his brother, Mohammad Arif, 35, following the grisly discovery at their house in a remote district in Punjab province.

Officers were alerted after neighbours complained of a foul smell coming from the property. Arif has admitted he and Farman cooked and ate the dead body after his brother stole the corpse from a cemetery, according to police. The pair, who live in the small town of Darya Khan in central Pakistan, around 180 miles (300km) south of the capital Islamabad, had previously served two years in jail for cannibalism in a case that shocked the country.

Police said the brothers, arrested in 2011, had dug up more than 100 corpses from the local graveyard and eaten them. They were only released last year. District police chief Ameer Abdullah said as he revealed news of the first arrest: "Residents informed police after a stench emanated from the house of the two brothers.
"We raided the house on Monday morning and found the head of a young boy."
Police said that the men's wives and family members had left them some years ago and both were living in the house in isolation.

The suspects will undergo psychiatric tests, the police chief said. There is no specific law against cannibalism in Pakistan so, as in the 2011 case, Arif has been charged with desecrating a dead body and public order offences.
In the previous case, police found the body of a 24-year-old woman who had recently died of cancer at the men's house. She was without a leg, which the brothers had eaten.

9-Month-Old Baby Accused Of Murder, Goes Into Hiding

A nine-month-old Pakistani baby accused of attempted murder has gone into hiding in an attempt to avoid charges that could be, maybe, somewhat overblown.

Baby Musa Khan was charged with attempted murder along with his father and grandfather after a mob angered by gas cuts and price increases turned violent, throwing stones at police and gas employees trying to collect bills.

Apparently, the baby was slapped with the charge when a victim complained that the whole family had beaten him up. The complaint was taken very literally.

The baby, out on bail, is supposed to return to court on April 12, but his grandfather, Muhamad Yasin, said the family hasn't decided yet whether to take him to court.

India's Sun Pharmaceutical Acquires Long Time Rival Ranbaxy

India’s Sun Pharmaceutical has agreed a deal to acquire its long time rival Ranbaxy, majority owned by Japan’s Daiichi Sankyo. The deal which is worth $4 billion when combined, will be India’s largest pharma company and the fifth in the world generic drug making.

This is coming at a time when Ranbaxy is under scrutiny of US regulators who have imposed import bans on drugs manufactured at some facilities, the US drug regulators said there had been “significant” manufacturing violations at one of its facilities.

It alleged that staff had conducted tests on materials that had already failed initial tests “in order to produce acceptable findings.”

Nigerian Brands Tasked On Service Offerings and Customer Service

Nigerian brands have been advised to pay more attention to service offerings and customer service if they are to favourably compete with their foreign counterparts operating in the country.
Making this call was Daniel Adia, the founder of MyNaijaReviews.com (MNR), a prominent online product and service review website. MNR is an online platform that allows its users to rank Nigerian products, businesses and services.

Adia, in a press release, stated that the dissatisfaction of Nigerians with local brands is a major reason why foreign brands are often preferred to made-in-Nigerian equivalents.

“From what I have observed, it would seem that majority of Nigerians are not too impressed with what they are getting with respect to service offerings and customer service from Nigerian brands. If you ask me, this seems to be one of the major reasons why our brands are overshadowed by foreign brands. If we are to develop our economy, then Nigerian brands must begin sit up and pay more attention to service delivery and customer focused service, he said “

According to Adia, MNR was set up as a platform for customers and prospects to interact with Nigerian business and products. He said: We have been operating for about four years now and we have more than 2,000 businesses registered on the website with more than 3,000 people using the site. So when we talk about Nigerians and their impression about our local brands, we are talking from an informed position because we have people visiting the MNR website to rank the products and services after they have used them.

Speaking on why he decided to set up MNR, Adia said that the website was set up with the aim of forging a better Nigeria, where businesses are encouraged to pay proper attention to their customers. “We are working towards building a country where businesses can finally get real time unfiltered feedback from their customers. We believe that this is key to the success of Nigerian brands. That was essentially why we came up with MNR,” he stated.

While adding that the website also gives users the opportunity to review Nigerian movies, He stated that regular users are rewarded for ranking products and services.

“We are not just focusing on products and services. We also want to contribute our quota to Nigeria’s movie industry by giving Nollywood enthusiasts the opportunity to review movies. What stands us out is that we don’t just allow people review products, services and movies. We have a unique reward system where we reward users of the site,” he added.

Telecommunication Company In Nigeria Goes Broke, Sacks Over 2000 Workers

Reports have revealed that Etisalat,  Nigeria telecom operator  is broke and in order to keep its head above waters ,has decided to sack over 2,000 of its staff across Nigeria.

According to some of those that were sacked, they were given their pay off cheque on Friday, and asked to go home. In its stead, the operator is now planning to hire casual or adhoc staff to handle most of its jobs.

Most of those sacked have expressed surprise and disappointment over the development which has thrown them into the already saturated unemployment market. Attempt by journalist to speak to the management of Etisalat to confirm or deny the allegations has been unsuccessful so far.

This has added to the ugly trend Nigerian university graduates are suffering in the hands of foreign investors in the country, whom exploit Nigerians due to the level of unemployment in the country.
