Hoodlums Rape Varsity Girls, Injure Others In Nigeria State University

Armed hoodlums, yesterday, invaded the hostel of students of the Osun State University main campus in Osogbo, Nigeria and allegedly raped some female students while some male students were injured.

The hoodlums, according to sources, stormed the hostel outside the university campus in the evening and stole some property belonging to the students.

It was gathered that the hoodlums, who were armed with machetes and other dangerous weapons, carried out the operation simultaneously at three different hostels in the area.

The source also said the hoodlums raped female students in all the hostels, while male students who failed to co-operate with them were stabbed.

The affected hostels are Aso Villa, Diamond Hostel and Marvelous Hostel. Items such as laptops, phones, jewelleries and others were carted away by the hoodlums.

The injured students were said to have been taken to an undisclosed hospitals where they are currently receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, some students of the university have protested against the development, claiming that the incident has become rampant in the university in recent time.

The angry students, during the protest, chanted songs and prevented lecturers and students from gaining entrance into the campus.

Naval Officer Blinds Policeman’s Eye With Car Key

A naval officer, Master Warrant Officer Unaji Benjamin Enejor, has been alleged to have inflicted serious injury on the right eye of Police Inspector Emmanuel Nbillah with his car key at Kirikiri area of Lagos state, Nigeria.

This happened during a mild argument that ensued after the naval officer rammed his car into the Police officer’s wife’s store.

The naval officer, attached to Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, Oshodi, with service number M4351, was reportedly driving his Honda Shuttle car with  number plate LSR 34 CE along Akere Street in Kirikiri when it veered off the road and rammed into a restaurant belonging to the wife of the policeman, attached to the State Criminal Investigations Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos.

Sources learnt that the Police Inspector and his wife, who were sitting close to the store, escaped death by the whiskers as the wall of the store was damaged.

It was gathered that after the incident, the couple and their neighbours confronted the naval officer, who resides in Ojo Navy barracks, insisting that he must pay for the damages but he reportedly snubbed them after identifying himself as a naval personnel.

The situation took another dimension few minutes later as the wife of the Police officer rushed to Kirikiri Police division to lodge a complaint.
While there, a hot argument ensued between the Naval officer and the Police inspector who was said to have
also identified himself.
Eyewitnesses told Vanguard that in the course of the argument, the Naval officer brought out his car key which he poked into the right eye of the Police inspector after which he sped off in his car.
Sympathizers chased the naval officer to an adjoining street where he was caught.

He was subsequently taken to Kirikiri Police station where he was detained. The case was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, for further investigation.

Bible Saves Man From Gun Shot, Absorbs Two Bullets

Bus driver Rickey Waggoner was attacked by the group who shot him twice in the chest at close range and once in the hip. Mr Waggoner had stopped on the side of the road because of engine trouble.

Police in Dayton, Ohio, said the 49-year-old could have been killed if it wasn’t for the New Testament Bible. ‘I had a book in my pocket,’ Mr Waggoner told 911 operators.

‘At first I thought it went through. It just feels like I’ve been hit with a sledgehammer in the chest. And I’ve been cut on the arm.’

Mr Waggoner managed to wrestle the gun from the youngsters, who are thought to be aged between 15 and 18, and fired back.‘They started to run. I shot at them with their gun,’ he added. ‘I got their gun and knife in the bus with me.’

Authorities are still looking for the suspects and said the shooting may have been carried out as a gang initiation.

Terrorist Group kills 29 Pupils in Yobe Nigeria

Gunmen from Boko Haram stormed a boarding school in Yobe overnight and killed 29 pupils, many of whom died in flames as the school was burned to the ground, police and the military said on Tuesday.

"Some of the students bodies were burned to ashes,"  the Nigerian police said that the attack was on the Federal Government college of Buni Yadi, a secondary school in Yobe state, near the state's capital city of Damaturu.

All those killed were boys. No girls were touched, the police spokesman said.

Boko Haram, whose name means "Western education is sinful" in the northern Hausa language, have frequently attacked schools in the past. A similar attack in June in the village of Mamudo left 22 students dead.

More than 200 people were killed in two attacks last week, one in which militants razed a whole village and shot panicked residents as they tried to flee.

The failure of the military to protect civilians is fuelling anger in the north east, the region worst affected by the four- and-a-half-year-old insurgency. An offensive ordered by the Nigerian President in May has failed to crush the rebels and triggered reprisals against civilians.

The military shut the northern part of the border with Cameroon on the weekend. The insurgents mostly occupy the remote, hilly Gwoza area bordering Cameroon, from where they attack civilians they accuse of being pro-government. They have also started abducting scores of girls, a new tactic reminiscent of Uganda's cult-like Lord's Resistance Army in decades past.

Commercial yclist To Die By hanging Over Missing Corp Member

For playing a lead role in the case of a  missing National Youth Service Corps member, Miss Anthonia Okeke, who was serving  at Ilawe Ekiti, a 26‑year-old commercial motorcyclist, Theophilus Pius, is to die by hanging.

This was the verdict of an  Ikere Ekiti  High Court presided over by Justice Adegoriola Adeleye.
In the case that lasted six years, the judge equally sentenced Pius to 10 years imprisonment for kidnapping Anthonia, which ultimately led to her death in the hands of ritualists.

Anthonia, a Chemical Engineering graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, who lost her father, Pa Raphael Okeke, to stroke last month, owing to the circumstances of her disappearance, was kidnapped  in Ilawe Ekiti in Ekiti South-West Local Government Area of Ekiti State on December 19, 2008 by Pius and his gang during his service year.

The late corps member  is from Umuno Ndiuno  in Ezeagu Local Government of Enugu State. Delivering his judgment, yesterday, the Justice said he found the evidence adduced by the Director of Public Prosecution from the state Ministry of Justice, against Pius as having probative value and reliable enough to convince him that the accused person was guilty of the case.

He said: “I want to submit that the prosecution counsel has been able to prove his case beyond reasonable doubt. He has been able to establish that the defendant is culpable and no criminal shall go unpunished in the face of law.”

The Justice, therefore, ruled that Pius should die by hanging, having found him guilty of murder, even as Pius is to serve 10 years jail term for his complicity in the kidnap of the late corps member.

Rooney Pens Bumper New United Deal

The Many Sins of Nigeria Central Bank Director

The Presidency yesterday explained that the suspension of the Governor of Central Bank, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has nothing to do with his recent appearance at the Senate where he made startling allegations against the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati said his suspension was in connection with his recklessness and violation of extant laws of the Land.

Dr Abati who addressed state House correspondents to clear the air on the rumour making rounds that the Presidency was not comfortable with Sanusi’s recent utterances noted that “the president has had to take this decision as part of attempt to strengthen the CBN to ensure that the apex bank continues to be symbol for prudence, integrity and accountability”.

According to Abati, “Last year when the CBN submitted its financial statement for the year ended 31st  December 2012, a query was raised about some of the issues in the financial statement and the CBN governor was asked to offer some clarification with regards to these issues.

This was around first week of May 2013. A response came from the CBN which was then forwarded to the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria. The Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria by its act  is empowered to review the accounts of the CBN and if there is cause for investigation to conduct such investigation. nd if there is need also to invite other bodies to further investigate, the law makes allowance for that and that took place. Some of the outcomes of that process relates to the issues raised about financial recklessness.

“If I may just draw attention to a few of them: the persistent refusal and negligence to comply with public procurement act in the procurement practices of the CBN; unlawful expenditure by the CBN on intervention projects across the country deploying huge sums of money as the CBN did under the watch of Mallam Sanusi without appropriation and outside the CBN’s statutory mandate. It is said that the expenditure of public funds of course by any organ of government must be based on clear legal mandate, prudent constraint and overriding national interest. And then, the financial infraction and act of financial recklessness committed by the CBN and reflected in its audited financial statement for 2012.

“The review by the “Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria rather than allay the fears of government further confirmed concerns about the untidy manner in which the affairs of the CBN were conducted.

“The question has also been raised on whether this has to do with the ongoing appearances in the National Assembly by the suspended CBN governor. I will like to state very clearly that this has nothing to do with that. I have given you the background so that you can see that this is the process.

“And indeed we look forward to a situation whereby Mr. Sanusi will continue to assist the legislature in their investigations and will continue to testify because what government is interested in really is transparency and accountability and anything that will further promote that objective is perfectly welcome,” he said.

Particulars of the infractions against Sanusi

Persistent refusal and/or negligence to comply with the Public Procurement Act in the procurement practices of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

(A) By virtue of Section 15 (1)(a) of the Public Procurement Act, the provisions of the Act are expected to comply to ‘all procurement of goods, works and services carried out by the Federal Government of Nigeria and all procurement entities.’ This definition clearly includes the Central Bank of Nigeria.

(B) it is however regrettable that the Central Bank of Nigeria, under your leadership, has refused and/or neglected to comply with the provisions of the Public Procurement Act (PPA). You will recall that one of the primary reasons for the enactment of the PPA was the need to promote transparency, competitiveness, cost of effectiveness and professionalism in the public sector procurement system.

(C) available information indicates that the Central Bank has over the years engaged in procurement of goods, works and services worth billions of Naira each year without complying with the express provisions of the PPA.

(D) by deliberately refusing to be bound by the provisions of the Act, the CBN has not only decided to act in an unlawful manner, but has also persisted in promoting a governance regime characterised by financial recklessness, waste and impunity, as demonstrated by the contents of its 2012 Financial Statements.

Unlawful expenditure by the Central Bank of Nigeria on ‘Intervention Projects’ across the country

(A) the unacceptable level of financial recklessness displayed by the leadership of the Central Bank of Nigeria is typified by the execution of ‘Intervention Projects’ across the country. From available information, the bank has either executed or is currently executing about 63 such projects across the country and has committed over N163billion on them.

(B) it is inexcusable and patently unlawful for any agency of government to deploy huge sums of money as the CBN has done in this case, without appropriation and outside CBN’s statutory mandate. It is trite that the expenditure of public funds by any organ of government must be based on clear legal mandates, prudent costing and overriding national interest.

Financial infractions and acts of financial recklessness committed by the Central Bank as reflected in its audited financial statements of 2012

(A) pursuant to Section 50 of the CBN Act 2007, a copy of the audited financial statements of the CBN for the year ended 31st December 2012 was sent to Mr. President. Based on the issues raised in the financial statement, a reinsertion was requested from you to enable a proper appreciation of the nation’s economic outlook.

(B) the response to this query was further referred to the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria.

The review by the council, rather than allay the fears of government, further confirmed concern bout the untidy manner in which you have generally conducted the operations of the CBN.

Some of the salient observations arising from the review are:

(A) in a most ironical manner, it has become obvious that the CBN is not able to prepare its financial statements using applicable International Financial Reporting Standards (IFFS) whereas Deposit Money Banks that the CBN is supervising have complied with this national requirement since 2012.

Undoubtedly, this laxity on the part of our apex bank, apart from calling to question its capacity for proper corporate governance, is capable of sending wrong signals to both domestic and international investors on the state of the Nigerian economy.

(B) the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the CBN and other Deposit Money Banks on Banking Resolution Sinking Fund have been breached in a material manner. For example, a Board of Trustees (BOT) to manage the Fund has not been constituted since 2010 when it was established. The CBN has however continued to utilise the Fund for certain operations without approval of the said BOT.

(C) contrary to section 34 (b) of the CBN Act 2007 which provides that the CBN shall not, except as provided in Section 31 of the Act, inter alia, purchase the shares of any corporation of company, unless an entity set up by the approval or authority of the Federal Government,m CBN in 2010, acquired 7% shares of International Islamic Management Corporation of Malaysia to the tune of N0.743 billion. This transaction was neither brought to Mr. President’s attention nor was a board approval obtained before it was entered into.

(D) the CBN has failed or refused to implement the provisions of the Personal Income Tax (Amendment) Act 2007. Accordingly the Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) deductions of its staff are still being computed in accordance with the defunct Personal Income Tax Act 2004, thus effectively assisting its staff to evade tax despite the generous wage package in the CBN, relative to other sectors of the economy.

(E) the CBN had an additional brought forward to General Reserve Fund of N16.031 billion in 2012 but proceeded on a voyage of indefensible expenses in 2012 characterised by inexplicable increases in some heads of expenditure during the year. Examples include:

1. The bank spent N3.086 billion on “promotional activities” in  2012 (up from N1.084 billion in 2011). The bank spent this sum even when it is not in competition with any other institution in Nigeria;

2. The CBN claimed to have expended N20.202 billion on ‘Legal and Professional Fees’ in 2011 beyond all reasonable standards of prudence and accountability;

3. Between expenses on ‘Private Guards’ and ‘Lunch for Policemen’, the CBN claimed to have spent N1.257 billion in 2012;

4. While Section 6(3)(c) of the CBN Act 2007 provides that the board of the CBN is to make recommendations to Mr. President on the rate of remuneration to Auditors, the bank has consistently observed this provision in breach and even went to the extent of changing one of the Joint External Auditors without notifying the office of the President.

Defending their right against people who use the bible to judge them, the coordinator of the protest Davis Mac-Iyalla said:

"As for the Bible and scripture, I just try to do my best to live the way I believe a good person should and leave "the book" to others who do a great job twisting it into what they want to believe. I do use pieces to point out their imperfections, though, when they use it as a weapon against homosexuals.

 I have said it before, and I would say it again: If you want to live completely by the principal of the Ten Commandments, then show me where it was written that "thou shall not be gay." Husband Accused Of Stabbing His Wife 76 Times Sentenced To Death By Hanging

Akolade who was accused of allegedly stabbing his wife, Titilayo 76 times at their residence in Lagos insisted he loved his wife and did not kill his wife saying he and the deceased kissed and had sex for two hours on the day she died, which happened to be his birthday.

The trial judge,Justice Lateefa Okunnu of an Ikeja High Court delivered her judgment today, Friday and found Arowolo guilty on one-count of murder. The judge said the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that he killed his wife. Akolade burst into tears after the verdict was read.

Akolade who claimed to be an ordained pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God had told the court his wife died in an accident, falling on a knife she was using to stab him during a quarrel on his birthday.
According to him: “She started screaming that she was going to kill me and kill herself. I was begging her to take it easy and drop the knife but she refused.

“That was when we started struggling for the knife and she fell on the bed”. Akolade who had been married to his late wife, Titilayo for only two years and blessed with a daughter was apprehended on December 21, 2011, and charged to court for allegedly stabbing her to death.

Man Arrested For Having Sex With Goat In Jigawa, Nigeria

A 20-year-old man has been arrested by Jigawa State Police Command for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a goat at Baranda forest in Dutse Local Government Area.

Meantime, the chief magistrate’s court sitting in Dutse has ordered the remand of the boy, Malam Kamisu Baranda, in prison for two weeks.

Magistrate Auwalu Sani Balago said the accused person did not confess that he committed the act but the court remanded him to allow police make further inquiries.

Kamisu was said to have admitted that the goat belonged to him and that he had asked the goat to have sexual intercourse with him but he was arrested by the village head of the area and handed over to the
police.

He explained that this was not the first time of having sex with animals inside bush because he has done it over 10  times and was never arrested.

He regretted that if he knew that he would be arrested, he would have not tried it because it was the reason why he did not make love with women in the area.

He said animals satisfied his demand, that is why he is not afterwomen in the state just to avoid embarrassment but still he foundhimself ambushed by people in the area.

He called on the court to do justice for him because he knows that what he did was an offence to a society and against the Islamic injunctions.

Caught In The Act: Mother of 2 Stripped, Sent Packing Over Adultery

A shocking incident occurred at Umuozu, a community in Nwangele LGA , Imo State, involving a mother of two (names withheld) who was stripped naked and conveyed in a wheel-barrow to her father's house for alleged adultery.

It was gathered that the young mother of two was married but her husband Josiah is deceased , an indigene of Eshiukwu in Nwangele LGA.

According to sources, she was stripped naked, put into the wheel barrow with her two children amidst war songs which were chanted by the angry mob, made up of youths, before she was finally returned to her father's compound which is a nearby community known as Isiala.

Eye witness account has it that the woman was a known serial adulteress and was deeply involved in it for material satisfaction.

The eye witness further disclosed that the woman was caught in the act though the youths who took charge of sending her back to her father's house, failed to reveal who her partner in the said crime was. The youths were said to have become angry when just few days after her husband's death, she was caught having sex with one of her partners in crime.

The woman it was noted, was accused of being responsible for the untimely death of Josiah who it was gathered, died after suffering from a bloated stomach which lasted for months. The villagers insisted that her husband died because she used the money she received from her partners to feed her family. This according to them was a taboo and thus, responsible for the man's bloated stomach and subsequent death.

The witness however, confirmed that such act was against the customs and traditions of the people, adding that it was sacrilegious for a married woman to engage in adultery and worse still, to directly or indirectly involve her husband in benefiting from whatever she made from it.

Depressed Man Feeds 'Himself' To Tigers

Chinese zoo keepers managed to save the life of a mentally disturbed man after he announced he wanted to improve the lives of caged tigers at a local zoo by offering them his own body to eat. Yang Jinhai,

27, had posted several online messages about how optimistic he was about starting a new life after getting a job as a security guard in Chengdu in southwest China's Sichuan province. Horrified witnesses watch a man being dragged around by a Bengal tiger at Chengdu Zoo in China

But he quickly found the job boring and monotonous and moved instead to a job in a printing factory where he also then resigned, saying that he felt there was more to life.

After going to the local zoo he wrote how depressing it was to see the 'noble and magnificent tigers' living in such humble surroundings, where they were caged and unable to follow their natural instincts to hunt and kill.

He then announced that he had decided to sacrifice himself in order to provide the Bengal tigers with support.

Eyewitness Feng Lin said: 'He climbed up the outside of the cage and jumped inside expecting, I assume, that the tigers would pounce on him. Instead the two tigers, a male and a female, seemed more nervous than anything else and the female actually ran off.

'He then tried to antagonise the tigers by pulling faces at them. Eventually he was attacked by the male where he was cut after being scratched and bitten before he could be rescued by zoo keepers who fired a tranquilliser dart at the male tiger.'

Rescued: The tiger eventually let Mr Jinhai go and zoo keepers led him to safety. They then pulled the man out of the cage.

Yang's family told local media Mr Jinhai had been depressed for a long time and said that he had been taken to a home where he was given psychiatric counselling to cope with his problems.

Man Dies After Taking 30 Quail Eggs To Boost His Performance In Bed

In a bid to satisfy his numerous concubines, a father of two died yesterday evening after he took raw quail eggs to boost his performance in bed. The 31 year old man was advised by a friend to take 30 eggs at once.
According to the wife, the deceased had of late shown a lot of interest in quails. He kept reading about the birds, benefits of its eggs among many other things. He even explained to her that the birds' eggs prevented ageing and enhanced sex drive.

While speaking to the media, the widow said that on Saturday, the husband left to work and came back with 30 quail eggs. He told her that he wanted to incubate the eggs so that they hatch because quails business was the in-thing.

At night, the deceased started complaining of stomach pain and was rushed to hospital but unfortunately was announce dead on arrival.

On checking in the kitchen, the mother of two discovered that all the 30 eggs bad been consumed and concluded that the husband had taken them.

The area administrator confirmed the incident saying that investigations are underway to establish if the man died from eating the eggs or from some other causes.

Incredible: Woman In Northern Nigeria Gives Birth To Stone

Amina Bello, 25-year old woman in Yolde  Pate in Yola South LGA of Adamawa State,  delivered a sizable stone. Bello narrated her story at the opening ceremony of  Vesico honeypotl fistula (VVF) free medical treatment in Yola Specialists Hospital. Bello, who is also a VVF patient, told the gathering that after four years pregnancy, she finally delivered a sizable stone last year.

"I was holding a pregnancy for the duration of four years, which I bitterly suffered because of the heavy weight of what is contained in the stomach,” she said. “It was last year around June, I started feeling labour and I was in that condition for three days and finally I delivered a stone.”

She said that it was after the delivery she now discovered that she was affected with VVF. Responding, Dr Sunday Lengmang, Director VVF Centre, Jos, confirmed that giving birth to a stone or any object was possible.

engmang was in Yola to attain to the VVF patients for the duration of one week .
“Stones and other solid objects can form in a human body in different cases,” he said. “Stones can form in a gall bladder, urinary  bladder and other several  parts of urinary tracks.”

The medical expert explained that why VVF  patients were prone to giving birth to stones or any solid object was because they drink less water to reduce urine leakage.

He said as a result of taking less water their urine become concentrated.

“Inside urine, there is salt, sodium and chlorine, and when the urine becomes concentrated, the salt becomes crystallised and finally forms itself and later ends up as stone,” he said.
Lengmang confirmed that three VVF patients had stones in their placentas and they would undergo surgery.
He said the size of the stones uncovered from the three women was six by seven and three by four centimetres.

Lengmang advised VVF patients to drink more water instead of taking less to prevent them from risk of having stones.

Nigerian Undergraduate Brutally Murdered By Cultists For ‘Being Too Proud’

A 17-year-old student of Bowen University, Opeyemi Odusanya, has been murdered by some cult members in Lagos.

Until her gruesome death, Opeyemi was a 300 level student of Biochemistry at the university.

Reports states that the undergraduate was murdered for allegedly rejecting sexual advances from some youths in the area and also for “being too proud.”

Opeyemi was stabbed to death by the cultists at her parents’ house in the Alakuko area of Lagos on February 3, 2014.

After stabbing her to death, they fled the house and used Opeyemi’s telephone line to send a text message to her mother, explaining why they killed the 17-year-old.


 “Your child has been proud. We have been toasting her, but she has refused to accept. We have killed her to teach a lesson. We have also driven your car away. But if you want your car back, come to Lakas Hotel or Cele Bus Stop around Mile 2 to pick it up. If we see policemen around, we will kill everybody.” The message read.

Confirming the incident, one of the police officers handling the case at the Alakuko Police Division, who claimed anonymity said

 “In the afternoon of February 3, 2014, the deceased went to buy airtime for her telephone. As she was returning, a group of cult members trailed her and entered the house with her.

Opeyemi was alone at home when the guys entered. They instructed her to turn on the generator so that if she screamed, no one would hear.

We believe that they wanted to rape the girl, but she must have put up a fierce struggle as the whole house was scattered. The guys subsequently stabbed her in the stomach several times and ripped out her intestines.

After killing her, they took her phone and the keys to her parents’ vehicle, a jeep, which was on the table. They stole the jeep, which was parked in the compound”
